¡Feliz Mayo!


 
La Clase de Kindergarten

The Kindergarteners are practiced the alphabet in Spanish followed by the song “Marchando Alrededor del Alfabeto” (Marching with the Alphabet).  They also started the unit about t The World of Insects and reading the popular books from Eric Carle. The activities the Kindergarteners will be involved throughout the end of the school year will be learning the cycle of the butterfly in Spanish the parts of an insects, followed by flashcard’s, music and games.

La Clase de Primer Grado

The First Grade students were very excited to learn the sea creatures in Spanish followed by songs and games.  Each student will continue working on a poster labeling and drawing their favorite under the sea animal.  They continue to review the calendar, numbers and questions they ask each other in Spanish of everyday conversation.  



La Clase de Segundo Grado

The Second Graders had fun asking each other questions about everyday conversations in Spanish they look very confident using Spanish questions. They will continue throughout the end of the school year reviewing the weather and the months of the year. They are doing an amazing job asking each other ¿Cúando es tu cumpleaños? (When is your birthday?). They will also learn the clothing by explaining what they typically need to wear each month according to the weather.

La Clase de Tercer Grado

The Third Graders reviewed zoo animals and used adjectives to describe the animals. The questions they will be practicing include: ¿Qué animal es? (What animal is it?) and ¿Cómo es? (What is it like?). They will continue throughout the end of the school year reviewing what they learned all year with games and worksheets. We also collaborated with Mr. Smith learning the terms and rules of soccer in Spanish.  Then we brought our vocabulary and rules learned out in the field playing futbol. Dale a la  pelota, Gol!!  

La Clase de Cuarto Grado

The Fourth Graders will started Unit 4: En la Escuela (At School), where they talked about classes, places in the school, and classroom activities, using questions such as, “¿Adónde vas?” and “¿Qué vas hacer?” (Where are you going? and what are you doing?). The responses will be followed by regular verbs, such as: Voy a estudiar, (I am going to study), Tu vas a estudiar (You are going to study), el/ella va estudiar (he/she is going to study). We will continue throughout the end of the school year reviewing vocabulary, asking questions playing games and having fun Fridays!

Brief Spanish Update for April 2013


¡Feliz Primavera!

 
La Clase de Kindergarten

The Kindergarteners had an amazing performance singing a song about la primavera (the spring) for the cultural parade in April.  The song they sang was called, “Somos Como las Flores” (Each of us is a Flower).  They seemed very excited to present this song to their families.  They also learned new vocabulary related to what they see in the spring, such as:  Veo flores, lluvia, arcoiris, animales bebés, etc. (I see flowers, rain, rainbows, baby animals, etc.).  They are also learning new vocabulary related to food.  They created a poster related to the food to take home for practice.


 
La Clase de Primer Grado

The First Grade students continued practicing the foods, including learning to say the phrases: Me gusta comer (I like to eat)…, and No me gusta comer (I don’t like to eat)...  They also learned various vocabulary words relating to things that they see in the spring (la primavera).  They are writing down vocabulary words, creating art, and singing songs, all related to spring.  I am very impressed by how excited they are about learning new themes every month in the Spanish Class and how well they are able to memorize, identify, and apply the vocabulary they have learned.


 
La Clase de Segundo Grado

The Second Graders are continuing to make flashcards to take home for practicing their Spanish vocabulary.  The students reviewed the weather and the months of the year, followed by spring-related vocabulary and sentences and learned the fruits and making flashcards to practice in class with their classmates.  They also were very engaged practicing a creative song relating the food they had a really good time memorizing it “Bistec”


 
La Clase de Tercer Grado


The Third Graders had a great time learning the foods and working in groups asking each other what they like to eat and what they dislike using the phrases: ¿Que te gusta comer? and ¿Que no te gusta comer?  They also enjoyed learning the song “Bistec” The Third Graders continue to enjoy making flashcards to take home and practice for reviews in class.

 
La Clase de Cuarto Grado

Last month, the Fourth Graders completed Unit 3 of their program, where they talked about going to places on different days of the week and different times.  They learned vocabulary relating to common places in the community, such as el cine (movies), la ecuela (school), la tienda (store), el restaurant (restaurant), etc.  They also learned how to use the singular present tense forms of ir (to go).

March Update!

Brief Spanish Update for March

 
La Clase de Kindergarten


The Kindergarteners have been currently learning the numbers 1-20 followed by the song “Cuenta” (count) and using addition flashcard to practice the numbers as well. We learned the song related to spring, called Somos Como las Flores (Each of us is a Flower).  They were very pleased to create a book from the song.  They also learned new vocabulary related to what they see in the spring.  Veo flores, lluvia, arcoiris, animals bebés, etc. (I see flowers, rain, rainbows, baby animals, etc.). They had a great time learning the farm animals too. In our circle time continue reviewing the weather, days of the week and alphabet.

The First Grade students continued practicing the farm animals and chanted “Mi animal favorito es____? (My favorite animal is___?).  They also learned various things that they see in la primavera (the spring). They are writing vocabulary words, creating art, and singing songs, all related to spring.  I am very impressed by how excited they are in learning new themes every month in the Spanish Class and how well they are able to memorize, identify, and apply the vocabulary learned.

The Second Graders are continuing to make flashcards to practice their Spanish vocabulary.  The students reviewed the weather and the months of the year followed by spring words and sentence. We also created a farm with all the farm animals and drew what their favorite farm animal is.     

 

La Clase de Tercer Grado

Third Graders are having a great time learning the foods and working in groups asking each other what they like to eat and what they dislike using the phrase: Que te gusta comer? Que no, te gusta comer. The Third Graders were very excited to experience a fruit stand in the classroom and order their favorite fruit to eat. Example of the conversation: “Quiero comer manzana, pera y uvas. Por favor” (I’d like to eat apple,pear and grapes.  Please!)

February Spanish Update!


What did the students learn this month in Spanish?


La Clase de Kindergarten

The students learned new vocabulary words related to February and the emotions. New vocabulary words include corazon, chocolates, tarjetas, flores, besos and cupido.  We played memory games and created a book with the new vocabulary words.

 La Clase de Primer Grado

This month, the First Graders learned February vocabulary words and continued with the names of the months.  They played games (memory, telephone and Simon Dice) and reviewed the numbers 1-30.  New vocabulary words include rojo, rosado, besos, tarjetas, corazon, chocolates and rosas.

 
La Clase de Segundo Grado

This month, the Second Graders learned February vocabulary words and made cards to express kind words in Spanish to someone special.  We also started a new theme about farm animals, with a new song called “Vengan a Mi Granja.”


La Clase de Tercer Grado

This month, the Third Graders reviewed Spanish words and phrases related to the month of February.  They were very engaged making cards to express kind words in Spanish to someone special.  We continued working to wrap up the unit covering items in the house.


La Clase de Cuarto Grado

This month, the Fourth Grade classes did an impressive job with their Power Point presentations, booklets, and posters relating to animals that live in the regions of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain.  They also did an extraordinary job using Voice Thread technology.  Their voices sounded like native speakers.  Gracias to all of the Fourth Graders and Ms. Sachdeva for making this happen in her technology lab.

January Update for Spanish K-4th Grade


What did the Kindergarteners learn this month in Spanish?

The Kindergarteners learned new vocabulary words and phrases for winter and what to wear for the season.  New vocabulary included: Cuando hace frio llevo: (When it is cold I wear:) bufanda, sueter, chaqueta, gorro, y guantes.  The students played memory games and created a book with the new vocabulary words.

La Clase de Primer Grado

This month, the First Graders learned the months of the year, cold-weather activities, and what to wear when it is cold.  New vocabulary learned included: bola de nieve, copos de nieve, chocolate caliente, hombre de nieve, botas, sueter, chaqueta, hace frio, guantes, y bufanda.

 La Clase de Segundo Grado

This month, the Second Graders reviewed vocabulary related to the months of the year and identifying different activities based on the weather.  The students also reviewed and identified the seasons with a popular song “Canta,” that helped them to remember the weather and seasons.  They continued working with numbers and simple conversations, such as, “¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?” (When is your birthday?)

La Clase de Tercer Grado

This month, the Third Graders reviewed vocabulary related to the weather and seasons.  The students worked on translating a song called “Canta,” which relates to the seasonal theme, and they were very engaged with the activity.  We also continued working on a unit covering the items in a house.  New vocabulary includes: guardaropa, cortinas, alfombra, televisor, sillon, sofa, y cama.

La Clase de Cuarto Grado

This month, the Fourth Grade classes are doing an amazing job with their power point presentations, booklets, and posters related to the unit covering animals that live in the regions of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain.  The students will also work with Ms. Sachdeva using the voice thread technology, where they will record their voices speaking in Spanish.
