¡Feliz Año Nuevo! ( Happy New Year!) from the Spanish Class

La Clase de Kindergarten

The Kindergarteners are currently learning the months of the year with a Spanish song, followed by the seasons. They will also be learning the parts of the face and body by playing “Simon Dice” (Simon Says), and individually writing books focusing on the themes learned this month.

La Clase de Primer Grado
The First Grade students are reviewing the parts of the human body along with the parts of the penguin. They are also practicing the numbers 1 through 25 with an activity that involves catching a beach ball containing the numbers and also singing a song about the numbers called “Cuenta” (Count).

La Clase de Segundo Grado
The Second Graders will be making flashcards to take home to practice their Spanish vocabulary. You can expect to see the flashcards coming home frequently throughout the rest of the year. They also enjoy using the flashcards for group activities in class. This month, the students are learning the farm animals and also reviewing the numbers, the seasons, and the month of the year with worksheets and songs.

La Clase de Tercer Grado
This month, the Third Graders will be reviewing vocabulary about what they like to eat, including fruits, vegetables, and other foods. They will also learn to set the table by learning the Spanish names for all of the utensils needed. The Third Graders are very excited to learn all about the foods because they will be creating a small mercado (market) using a type of clay called “migajon” to make miniature food. Please feel free to stop by and see their mercado creation.

La Clase de Cuarto Grado
This month, the Fourth Grade classes finished the presentations of the animals they selected from Latin America and Spain. They all did an amazing job with the presentations; thank for helping to make this happen successfully! The students are looking forward to making Pico de Gallo later this month, which is a very popular appetizer from Mexico (chips and salsa). They also learned about Mexico’s culture and music.

La Clase de Quinto Grado
The Fifth Graders are learning to ask what someone is like (¿Cómo eres?), and to describe people (Cómo es). They will ask about ages and birthdays: ¿Cuantos años tienes? (How old are you?), and ¿Cuando es tu cumpleaños? (When is your birthday?). They will also talk about what others like and dislike: ¿Qué te gusta? (What do you like?), and ¿Qué no te gusta? (What don’t you like?). Mrs. Sachdeva and I will pair up to do a fun project with the Fifth Graders this month where they will be assigned to write a few sentences about themselves in Spanish. With the help of Mrs. Sachdeva, they will record their voices using voice thread, enabling them to have access to listen to their voices online. Mrs. Sachdeva will give more details on the technology aspect of this fun project for the Fifth Graders.
